Tomato Raita

Tomato is a  commonly used vegetable in a variety of dishes. It gives good taste with its tanginess.  Tomato raita is spicy, tangy and is more delicious than any other raita. Here goes the simple procedure to prepare Tomato Raita.


Tomatoes: 4 (finely chopped)
Green chillies: 3 (finely chopped)
Mustard seeds: 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds: 1/2 tsp
Red chillies: 1
Curry leaves: Few
Yogurt: 1 cup
Turmeric powder: small pinch
Asafoetida: small pinch
Coriander to garnish.


Take yogurt in a bowl and beat it till it becomes smooth. Add salt and turmeric powder to it. Keep it aside.

Take a kadai add 1tsp oil and add mustard seeds, when it splutters add cumin seeds red chillies, asafoetida, curry leaves and green chillies. Sauté it for a minute and add tomatoes. Close with a lid and simmer it till tomatoes are cooked.

Add these cooked tomato to yogurt and mix it well. Garnish with coriander.

Serve with Parathas or Roti ( Indian flat bread).
