Pushkaralu----Origin and Importance

On the  eve of coming Krishna Pushkaralu here is a post from my blog about the origin and importance of Pushkaralu.

Rivers take the sins of humans when they take bath in them. The purification of those sins from river is called as Pushkaram. 

Once a Brahmin named Pushakara who was concerned about the sins the rivers are taking from the humans  did penance asking lord Shiva for the Jalathva Siddhi. Pleased with his prayers lord Shiva granted him the boon.

Lord Brahma prayed lord Shiva and took the Pushkara Tathva into his Kamandalam.

The importance of Pushkara has reached all rivers and Bruhaspathi (Jupiter) asked pushkara for the Pushkaratathvam. But he  did not accepted it. With the prayers of Rivers and Bruhaspathi Brahma spoke with Pushkara. So he accepted to stay with Bruhaspathi when he enters particular Zodiac sign  of the respective River for the first 12 days and last 12 days in the rivers stated by Lord Brahma.

It takes 12 years for Bruhaspathi (Jupiter) to complete one turn in all Rasis (Zodiac signs). Every river gets Pushkaralu once in 12 years. When Brihaspathi (jupiter ) enters in a Rasi (Zodiac sign) Pushkara comes into that  river along with all Theerthas, Devathas, and Pithrudevathas for the first and last 12 days



There are 12 zodiac signs and all the 12 Rivers as stated by Brahma are associated with one Zodiac Sign as stated below.

Mesha rasi ( Aries):          Ganga river
VrushabhaRasi (Taurus):    Narmada river
Midhuna rasi (Gemini):      Saraswathi river
Karkata rasi  (Cancer):      Yamuna river
Simha rasi (Leo):              Godavari
Kanya rasi (Virgo):            Krishna river
Tula rasi (Libra):               Kaveri river
Vruschika Rasi (Scorpio):   Bhima river ( thamraparni)
Dhanu rasi (Sagittarius):    Pulindi river
Makara rasi (Capricorn):    Thungabhadra
Khumbha rasi (Acquarius): Sindhu river
Meena rasi (Pisces):           Pranahitha river


All these 12 rivers get pushkaralu once in 12 years.  It is believed that  whoever take dip in the river during that time will be relieved from all sins.

Sri siddi vinayaka temple is at Rejinthal, Zaheerabad, Medak district, Telengana. It  is nearer to Hyderabad and is at a distance of 108 kilometers.  Zaheerabad was previously called Pedda Ekkheli. Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple Simhachalam

Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple is situated in Simahachalam, 15k ms from Visakhapatnam. The main idol of this temple is Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. Lakshmi is the consort of Narasimha Swamy. There are 10 Incarnations of Lord Vishnu.  Varaha is the third and Narasimha is the Fourth  incarnation. The idol in this temple is the combination of two incarnations of Lord Vishnu. The history of Simahachalam temple links back to Purana's and there are some interesting facts about this history. Those facts goes as: There was a demon called Hiranyakasipu. Prahlada was the son of the demon King Hiranyakasipu .  Prahlada was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Being a demon Hiranyakasipu did not like that.  He forced him to stop worshipping Vishnu and punished him severely. There are four places where he punished his son. Kamakshi Temple at Kancheepuram.

Kamakshi temple is one of the prominent Hindu temples and it is one of the fifity one shaktipeetas. It is situated at Kancheepuram, Tamilnadu. The diety in this temple is Kamakshi a form of Parvathi. This is the only temple of Parvathi in Kancheepuram. Ayodhya, Madhura, Gaya, Kaasi, Kanchi, Avanthika Puri, Dvaravathi Shaiva sapthaithe mokshadayini. Above poem is of the names of seven Moksha Nagarams out of which Kanchi is the only one situated in  South India. In the name Kamakshi , Ka represents Godess Saraswathi, Ma represents Godess Lakshmi and Akshi means Eyes.  Kamakshi is having  Lakhmi and Saraswathi as its eyes. The godess  done penace by sitting on the tip of the needle sorrounded by Pancha Agni's (Five holy fires) to be freed from livelihood. The Godess Kamakshi is in a sitting position in a lotus flower, the posture called padmasana.This place is called gayatri mandapa.
